HOW TO TRANSPORT A CHRISTMAS TREE
The holiday season is upon us, and if you haven’t already got an artificial tree ready to go in storage, you may be thinking about heading out and getting a real evergreen for your living room. If that’s the case, you’ll need to get it from the lot to your home, which can be quite challenging. By taking the proper steps for transporting a Christmas tree, you can ensure a clean, stress-free experience.
Consider your vehicle
If you plan to transport a Christmas tree, pickup trucks are convenient because they have a bed and SUVs allow you to carry your tree on the roof racks or, size permitting, in the cargo bay. No matter what you drive, you’ll want to make sure that you have your vehicle’s measurements so you know how much tree you can accommodate.
Put down a tarp
Using a tarp on top of your car will protect it from needles and sap, which can damage paint. You can put a tarp in a truck bed or cargo area to help stave off a mess as well.
Tie it down the right way
It’s a good idea to keep the Christmas tree in the netting in which it came. If it didn’t come in netting, or if you need to further secure it, tie-downs and bungee cords can help. If the tree is on top of your vehicle, aim it with the tree trunk pointed forward so the wind doesn’t strip the branches.
Avoid the highway
Driving slowly can prevent your Christmas tree from getting damaged or falling off your car, so try to stick to side roads instead of main roads.
